Unveiling of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Statue at UNESCO Headquarters

Mumbai - The Maharashtra Government had presented a statue of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar to the UNESCO Headquarters. With its unveiling today, Dr. Ambedkar’s statue now stands proudly in the courtyard of UNESCO’s Paris Headquarters on Constitution Day itself.

Expressing that this moment is one of immense pride for every Indian, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis thanked all the dignitaries and senior officials associated with UNESCO. He said,“Great visionary Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar guided the world towards equality, fraternity, and social transformation through his scholarship and brilliance. India’s Constitution stands as a testament to his extraordinary contributions. The unveiling of his statue on Constitution Day symbolizes the highest respect for the Constitution of the world’s largest democracy. On behalf of the people of Maharashtra, we consider this a moment to pay our tributes to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. We also congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi and everyone who worked towards making this statue a reality. I extend my best wishes to all citizens on this occasion.”

The statue was unveiled at UNESCO Headquarters by its Director-General, Khalid El-Anany. India’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Vishal Sharma, and other dignitaries were also present.

Earlier, the Maharashtra Government purchased Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s house in London and converted it into a museum. A statue of Dr. Ambedkar has also been installed at Koyasan University in Japan. The work on the international memorial of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar at Indu Mill in Mumbai has also been expedited, as directed from time to time by Chief Minister Fadnavis.
